Blood pressure measurement is part of a routine medical review and should be done at least once a year.
But what is Blood Pressure?
This is the pressure that your circulating blood exerts against the walls of your blood vessels. Blood pressure readings consist of 2 numbers – one number on top of the other.
The first (or top) number is your systolic blood pressure. It is the highest level your blood pressure reaches when your heart is contracting to push blood from the heart into the blood vessels.
The second (or bottom) number is your diastolic blood pressure. It is the lowest level your blood pressure reaches as your heart relaxes between beats. A healthy blood pressure reading is 120-130 systolic over 70-80 diastolic.
